79 years ago, Nazi Germany invades the Soviet Union, on this anniversary a cargo train with 600 tons of "uranium tails" went from the German city of Gronau to Russian Federation.

On June 22, a cargo train with 600 tons of radioactive waste went to Russian Federation from the Urenco uranium enrichment plant in German Gronau, the environmental public organization Ecozaschita reported on Tuesday, June 23.

Six shipments of radioactive waste, 600 tons each, had already arrived in Novouralsk earlier.
The uranium "tails" are stored in the open air, and the storage sites can be seen in satellite photos of Google maps (Novouralsk, Angarsk, Seversk, Zelenogorsk).

В день когда 79 лет назад Германия напала на Советский Союз, из немецкого города Гронау в Россию отправился грузовой состав с 600 тоннами "урановых хвостов".

22 июня грузовой состав с 600 тоннами радиоактивных отходов отправился в Россию с комбината по обогащению урана Urenco в немецком Гронау, сообщила экологическая общественная организация "Экозащита" во вторник, 23 июня.

Ранее в Новоуральск уже прибыли шесть партий радиоактивных отходов по 600 тонн каждая.
Урановые «хвосты» хранятся под открытым небом, и площадки складирования можно увидеть на спутниковых фотографиях Google maps (Новоуральск, Ангарск, Северск, Зеленогорск).

@_jayrope i would also add on this topic that the Chernobyl accident occurred shortly (less than a month) after the largest anti-nuclear demonstration in history, which took place in Bavaria.

Some modern researchers suppose that the Chernobyl accident was not an accident, but a planned event (and provide a number of arguments in support of this).

Exactly 35 years ago, the largest protests of the anti-nuclear movement took place in Bavaria. Germans protested against the construction of the nuclear reprocessing plant.

In Wyhl the local resistance for the first time formed a series of influential alliances – with the political Left, the sciences (above all Freiburg University) and the so-called “atomic tourists”. Thus, it succeeded in attracting attention on a supra-regional level and in formulating new lines of argument against nuclear energy. Additionally, the movement increasingly addressed the problem of hazardous incidents – something which reactor safety experts had done long before, but which had not entered the public sphere. The escalation phase of the protests in 1976 and 1977 was particularly defined by violence. With the establishment of the Gorleben “nuclear disposal park”, the protest focused on the unsolved problem of atomic waste.
During this phase, the nuclear power controversy developed into a central socio-political issue. Numerous publications appeared, more and more voices could be heard and fuelled a broad discourse of fear and individual concerns. A mere month before the reactor explosion in Chernobyl the anti-NPP movement experienced yet another climax in Wackersdorf on the Easter weekend of 1986.

On the Easter weekend of 30/31 March 1986, the anti-nuclear movement in Wackersdorf in Bavaria reached its climax with more than 100,000 protesters taking to the streets.
The nuclear reprocessing plant was never commissioned.

During these mass demonstrations, two anti-nuclear activists were killed in violent protests. A few months after these events, an anti-nuclear rock festival was held there, also in Wackersdorf. The Germans have since abandoned the idea of recycling nuclear waste in their country, but have not abandoned nuclear power itself. Germany now regularly sends nuclear waste to Russia - last year, for example, another 600-tonne batch of radioactive waste was sent just in time for the anniversary of Germany's attack on the USSR.

Vor genau 35 Jahren fanden in Bayern die größten Proteste der Anti-Atom-Bewegung statt. Deutsche protestierten gegen den Bau der atomaren Wiederaufbereitungsanlage.

In Wyhl schloss der lokale Widerstand erstmals eine Reihe von wirkungsmächtigen Bündnissen – mit der politischen Linken, mit der Wissenschaft (vor allem mit der Universität Freiburg) und mit „Atomtouristen“. Dadurch gelang es, überregional Aufmerksamkeit zu wecken und neue Argumentationslinien gegen die Atomenergie zu formulieren. Von Gewalt geprägt war besonders die Eskalationsphase der Proteste von 1976/77. Infolge der Einrichtung des „nuklearen Entsorgungsparks“ Gorleben konzentrierte sich der Protest auf das ungelöste Problem des Atommülls. In dieser Phase entwickelte sich die Kernkraftkontroverse zu einem zentralen gesellschaftspolitischen Thema. Zahlreiche Publikationen erschienen, immer mehr Stimmen wurden laut und heizten einen breiten Angstdiskurs an. Einen knappen Monat vor der Reaktorexplosion in Tschernobyl erlebte die Anti-AKW-Bewegung mit der Massendemonstration am Osterwochenende 1986 in Wackersdorf noch einmal einen Höhepunkt.

Die Deutschen haben sich inzwischen von der Idee der Wiederaufbereitung von Atommüll in ihrem Land verabschiedet, aber nicht von der Atomkraft selbst. Deutschland schickt nun regelmäßig Atommüll nach Russland - im letzten Jahr zum Beispiel wurde pünktlich zum Jahrestag des deutschen Angriffs auf die UdSSR eine weitere 600-Tonnen-Ladung radioaktiven Mülls verschickt.

Противники атомной энергии со всей Западной Германии съезжались в Виль, чтобы там подключиться к акциям протеста.

Менее чем за месяц до взрыва реактора в Чернобыле, на пасхальные выходные 30/31марта 1986 года, в баварском Вакерсдорфе антиядерное движение достигло своей кульминации - на улицы вышло более чем 100.000 протестующих.
Завод по переработке отработанных топливных стержней никогда не был запущен в эксплуатацию.

Во время этих массовых демонстраций двое антиядерных активистов погибли во время ожесточенных протестов. Через несколько месяцев после этих событий там же, в Ваккерсдорфе, прошел антиядерный рок-фестиваль. После этого немцы отказались от идеи переработки ядерных отходов в своей стране, но не отказались от самой атомной энергии. Теперь Германия регулярно отправляет отходы атомной энергетики в Россию, например, в прошлом году очередная 600 тонная партия радиоактивных отходов была отправлена как раз в день годовщины нападения Германии на СССР.

@ivan zlax i find it hard to connect those two things now, however, those things are possible. And regarding the transport of radioactive waste from here i think, that any other country should just stop to take our waste. Please! Otherwise profit rules over ratio again.

Under capitalism, it is a matter of money, not national priorities. I am sure that the absolute majority of Russians would be against such waste imports. It had been paid for. Also the money is given to Russians by ethnic German Herman Gref, as the permanent head of Sberbank. So it's just business and nothing personal.
