Hi all,

are there people on Hubzilla, who have begun on Hubzilla and always had their main account there?

I guess I did the most common way: Starting with Mastodon, learning about the fediverse and feel comfortable now on Hubzilla, after visiting Friendica, Misskey and some other fine activitypub software out there.

I think the really most common way is from Facebook to Friendica (not rarely before there was even Mastodon and almost always before 2022) to Hubzilla.

I went from Facebook to Diaspora to Red Matrix to Hubzilla. The latter 2 were effectively the same account.

I started with Diaspora sometime in the early 2010's, and moved a bit between different instances. When my then main instance went down, I decided it was time to start hosting my own instance, and landed on Hubzilla after exploring a bit alternatives that would allow me to still keep in touch with my contacts on Diaspora but also explore the new ActivityPub side of the fediverse.

Have to say I didn't really know what I was getting into, as it was then (as now) a bit hard to find good information on the web. Happy about the choice though.

@Hubzilla Support Forum i started with g+. when that was shut down i first switched to diaspora and after i found out that they have this concept of nomadic identity i switched to hubzilla. it helped that hubzilla could connect to my diaspora accounts.

I was interested in Diaspora but could not manage to selfhost it. Then i found out about Friendica, which i managed to install but was disfunctional at that point. Soon after i learned about Red which appeared to be the new hip shit. Installed and bam! There i was, writing with Mike and Beardy Unixer...

@Hubzilla Support Forum I started out with Diaspora and, in doing so, said goodbye to the walled garden. Setting up my own instance, however, wasn’t an option for me at the time. At the time, I saw Friendica as a sort of ‘Diaspora Deluxe’, but then I stumbled across Hubzilla quite quickly, gave it a go, and had set up my own hub in no time. I’ve stuck with Hubzilla ever since.
I’ve tried out numerous Fediverse services from time to time (even self-hosted some), but ultimately I’ve never been able to tear myself away from Hubzilla.

My path was much like yours. I had Facebook and Twitter. Migrated to Mastodon. Then started tinkering with running my own pleroma. I was really looking for something with more audience control features.
Landed on Hubzilla. Tested Friendica, Streams, Misskey, and everything in between. I feel like I'm done testing and have settled on Hubzilla.. It has the features I'm looking for and seems to be easy enough to self host.

@Hubzilla Support Forum When G+ was shut down I was thinking which network to migrate to - a silo like Medium was no option for several reasons.

So I checked the alternatives. Diaspora* was no option, because of ruby (which I don't know and have no idea how to debug/tune). I've tested Friendica before (quite some time ago) and found it wanting/buggy, so I've chosen Hubzilla: PHP, and able to connect to Diaspora* (at that time the largest network), Friendica, Twitter, Mastodon (very small at that point).

So I guess I'm one of the users who always was using Hubzilla 🙂

Most seem to have started with Diaspora (I remember I had also an account there after leaving G+, but never used it much.), but haven't known about Friendica those days. The last "Big Tech" I have used was twitter, so I was looking for a replacement for this instead of Facebook. All of Meta was very easy for me to abandon.

@Hubzilla Support Forum I went from Myspace to Facebook to Mastodon (2020) to Hubzilla (2023). All good.
Did try Misskey and Friendica as well, but the ability to run my own instance seemed most simple with Hubzilla.

Running my own instance was what drew me to Diaspora but, since I was running a Windows 2003 server at the time, that turned out to be a non-starter. With a some help, a few code changes, and changing to Windows 7, I think I had the only Windows-based Red Matrix instance until I swapped over to Linux.

@Hubzilla Support Forum It's interesting reading through the responses... and, comparing that to Mastodon or Diaspora* (at least in my bubble), I'd take this a bit further by wondering whether there are accounts, people, users out here who are mostly (only?) on Hubzilla without having much of a technical background, without being able or interested to run an instance of their own, let alone writing code or extensions; people who "just" want to stay connected to people that matter to them...?
