playercomposers groupDealing w/ a reoccurring work problem. Working with a dance company @ state theatre in Bremen, Germany. Composition/playing for productions start upon rehearsals only, then 8-10 weeks until premiere. No pauses + no coherent thought about a content or concept before this. So we start with weeks of improvisation gathering material.
One musician alone rarely is useful, when improvising for 6++ hours/day. So dancers & choreographer also make use of music videos to find material - and then want to stick to that music. I do pass on things i worked on myself, while trying to paint a music concept, which shall carry itself through the whole production. As they are working bit by bit the resulting material tends to become a style-splattered number revue for one, and any final material you could come up with is often not considered after they had used another musical blueprint.
How do you playercomposers deal with this? Thanks for any insights, I can go into details here.
