#
TLDR - This is about #
crashing a #
Hubzilla site as an admin -> and then what?
I crashed my own HZ installation early yesterday during altering the code of the N S F W add-on, while the server was live. I guess i like a little risk ;)
IDIOTIC BAD PARTI accidentally deleted /store contents. I don't even know, what content is in there exactly. Some photos i guess. But they didn't survive.
BAD (DECISIONS) PARTUpon reinstalling i opted to use a new database (keeping the old one, but for nothing).
I did this, because i assumed the crash had to do with MySQL. And my shared host provider didn't want to give me a MySQL restart.
So
no messages survived. Oh well.
The old database had grown to more than 2.5GB in just 6 weeks. I was worried before, because of that alone.
BETTER PART• I had enough time to channel export my only two channels, while the $content frame had stopped working on displaying posts (a little after any page was empty, showing nothing even in source code).
• I also had local backups of my htconfig ... & of extra CSS I had added to redbasics style.css
REINSTALLING / "GOODER" PARTAfter reinstalling the whole site from scratch & reimporting channels:
• The overall amount of reimported channel configs was quite good!
• All connections are back, still have their individual filter data.
But i have a new identities now, even with my old channel addresses, so especially zot6 connections don't recognize me atm. AP seems fine, no info about Diaspora.
• Contact roles, channel roles & privacy groups exist as they were before.
• Many connections lost their icons.
• Site info/config was lost.
So all that gets me to
FEATURES one could NEED, not even after a reinstall:
• A way to export and reimport a complete site configuration to file. Siteinfo, name, decription, filters, blocked domains, site prefs ... all those things.
• A simple command refreshing permissions & profile photos of all channel connections at once - and sending follow request to them automatically, too, so your new identity gets through to them. At the click of one button.
Going through 250 connections each by each is a real time waster.
• A way to suppress those notification popups, when needed. Especially the "Do you really want to [delete/ x" kind of things. Some love them, so it should be a channel display preference. But again: 250 times clicking them away.
• An automatic channel config(clone)/site config data exporter, working like a daily cron job or sthg.
In case you're not as lucky as me.
This, for now. I might add more later, during the course of this build-up.
Overall i'm happy about running HZ as much as about the higher minded and experienced people running HZ sites. And muchas gracias to @Mario Vavti who even emailed me to help. P.S.: If i mentioned features that exist already: Please correct. After all i only use Hubzilla since 6 weeks... thank you.
