Travelling various artist & label sites in the morning. Apparently even those, who do have a representation/profile on the #Fediverse do not usually display an iconized link to it
Is there an icon for the whole of the Fediverse?

#Hubzilla, #Mastodon, #Friendica, #Streams etc. all have their own. Yet it seems more productive to disregard the individual platforms here and emphasize the network instead.

Anybody?

Oh, a proposal by Eukombos, CC0, taken from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fediverse.
One would need this in black and white, too - and it doesn't scale well to small sizes.

But there is https://forkaweso.me/Fork-Awesome/icons/ Fork Awesome, a font collection containing most fediversal logos already. Not always easy to reference, though.

The fediverse icon is a coloured pentagram. I'm not crazy about it. There's also an ActivityPub logo. Every few months somebody complains that we're all devil worshippers and tries to solicit a new logo, but so far this is what we've got. Threads has their own fediverse logo which is a minimalist butterfly if I recall.

The coloured pentagram is the accepted and established standard, whether some overly sensitive fellows want or not. The Fediverse is not a corporation that can force a new logo from the top down. Even if Evan Prodromou chose a new logo, nobody would care.

The real issue is that for the vast majority of people out there who have heard of the Fediverse, the Fediverse is Mastodon, and Mastodon and only Mastodon is the Fediverse. My estimation is that about every other Mastodon user believes that. Plus, there are those who haven't even heard of the Fediverse, and who only know Mastodon. It's a fact that more people know Mastodon than the Fediverse.

Thus, everyone uses the Mastodon logo to represent the Fediverse.

In addition, there are various types of Fediverse share buttons. But I only know about one that's being built and tested to support a variety of server apps. It seems more common to build and test these buttons only against Mastodon.

Either the devs don't know there's something else in the Fediverse than Mastodon. Or they're amongst those who believe that everything that isn't Mastodon is an alternative UI for Mastodon and works just the same as Mastodon.

Or they simply think that it isn't worth supporting anything that nobody uses, and nobody uses anything else in the Fediverse than Mastodon anyway. Mastodon's Fediverse market share by registered users is 65%, but Mastodon's share of posts within Mastodon itself feels more like 98%. Not to mention that Mastodon users only know a post didn't come from Mastodon itself if it really sticks out like a sore thumb, blistering with stuff that Mastodon can't do. They can easily spend half a year without coming across a non-Mastodon post and another year without noticing any non-Mastodon posts.

Thus, these devs don't build Fediverse share buttons, they build Mastodon share buttons.

The problem we've always had - and always will continue to have, is that there is no link to "the fediverse as a whole". It isn't a website. It's the internet.

@Mike Macgirvin 🖥️ ...which essentially means that a share button must either recognise any Fediverse login in the browser and be able to pick one if there are multiple or link to mastodon.social which has a 22% chance of being correct.
