Artists loosing 22-year artist space in Barcelona RIGHT NOW.
Please forward to Catalan friends. #

Today, early in the morning, a demolition company called by the Barcelona city government, started taking down the artist house Marina122 - Casa Gay - at Carrer de la Marina 122.Am
very sad to hear this.
5 remaining artists & dancers are now homeless after 22 years of breathing soul into this marvellous place. Numerous artworks, custom costumes and other belongings are being destroyed as well.
http://marina122.netThe loss of this space is no compliment to Barcelona, which likes to emphasize it's own art history, but fails to support their own artists today. Against the vocal opposition of locals in the quarter they are turning a 4-story warehouse, inspiring with ateliers, dance floors, living and guest spaces and an adjacent marvellous garden with it's own vegetable beeds, palms, pool into a
concrete platform and ramp to access a nearby park.
Many people living in the barrio have massively voiced their opposition to the city architects' plans during public presentations of the project. They were completely ignored. Barcelona continues to transform into a museum of itself, having anything ready in glass boxes, instead of fostering its living artist communities.
This is a desaster.
I have stayed & worked there twice before. A paradise lost.
If anyone local feels inclined, go there now! Take images & videos and voice your opposition.
