A piece of coral. #
mauritius - The large side has approx. 16 cms. Coral in flat pieces like this tends to sound metallic, like a smaller bell, but with much less release. The material is pretty hard and heavy, too. Now I am wondering, if local oceanic music has made use of this as percussive instruments. I'd love to take this piece home, but I am unsure, if that is allowed. It wasn't on La Reunión. My return flight goes the day after tomorrow. I might try, if to craft this piece into a more pronounced instrument.
