PO numbers used in the music industry.
Could have said: Independent music professionals, beware!

Does anyone have a positive use case for PO numbers?
Here they are only being used by music industry - especially from the UK - to defer their payment for your urgently required services - until you just stop reminding them.

Or, put another way, use their system against them. If their accounting department won't pay without a PO, do not start work unless they give you a PO. If they object, tell them that it's their accounting department that requires a PO, not you, so they should complain to their accounting department... or just get a PO like they are supposed to do.

Or, to put it more bluntly, treat it like a 10 year old took their daddy's credit card and is trying to buy something from you. The PO is daddy's consent. And without daddy's consent, the transaction is not authorized by the person who will be paying.

So when dealing with them, treat it like it's their daddy's credit card. You should make sure daddy is okay with it before you begin work, because you might not get paid otherwise.

Sorry, for so many metaphors, but they were actually fun to create.

I am not sure how big your firm is, but you may consider checking their business credit report, and even reporting their payment history to the business credit bureaus.
